“Asbury Park Citizens Successfully Lobby for Arts & Culture in New Master Plan”, CreativeNJ.org

Artist Carrie Ruddick reported that in February 2017, shortly after Creative Asbury Park’s Call to Collaboration, a group of artists and arts business owners from the community developed a petition to request that an Arts and Culture Plan be included as a key component in Asbury Park’s new Master Plan and Vision. The petition received 390 signatures with much supportive commentary, and at the Master Plan Reexamination meeting held by the City Council on September 18, 2017, it was revealed to the public that the new Master Plan includes an Arts District, with goals to create more affordable space and housing for the arts community.
